Matthew Spencer and Mei-Li Garcia Beane's multi-instrumental and exciting performances have been inspiring audiences for some time. Their eclectic mix of ancient, folk and modern musical ideas take the listener on fascinating tours of color and texture. Spencer and Beane have a unique gift for connecting music through the ages, bringing new life to traditional melodies and spirit to new creations.

Their broad repertoire ranges from Gregorian Chant, to Vivaldi to Celtic folk music. They artfully combine the timbers of the violin, guitar, tin whistle, voice and viola in original arrangements that surprise the ear and thrill the mind.  Their music has been described as "brilliant and original," and "moving."

Mei Li was born in Sevilla, Spain.  Her earliest musical experiences included singing and dancing flamenco with her talented musical family and running around Europe with the other band children as her father’s rock band, Smash, went on tour. She began studying violin formally with the Suzuki method at age 3, and as an older child, studied violin and voice at the Conservatory of Seville, Spain eventually going on to Major in Music at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University and the College of William and Mary from which she holds a double Bachelor of Arts in Music and History.  Mei-Li can be seen living out her classical bent as a member of the Northern Neck Orchestra and various string quartets and classical ensembles

Matthew is a native Virginian, and he studied piano and guitar privately with various teachers as a young musician. He is currently pursuing further musical studies focusing on harmony and composition.  Matthew lets loose as a rock guitarist and bassist in the Newport News area and has toured with various rock bands throughout Virginia and North Carolina. He is a founding member of the band Paragon, based in Newport News, VA, which currently performs  throughout Virginia.

Matthew and Mei-Li have been making music together for six years, and they are sought after concert performers. They have also developed a busy church performance schedule ranging from traditional church services to contemporary with an emphasis on Celtic services. Together, Spencer & Beane have recorded three albums, all of which are available for purchase on this website and at their concerts.
